Best of the West

The leisurely pace of life in the West of Ireland, make this Tour one of our most relaxing, and all you’ve to do is concentrate on the Golf.

The West of Ireland, from Connemara into Mayo, boasts some of the most rugged and spectacular coastline along the Wild Atlantic Way. And luckily for us Golfers, it also has some amazing Golf courses. The West of Ireland has a uniquely slower pace of life feel to it, and is famous for its warm friendly welcome, something I experienced at first – hand in my time as Head Professional at Westport Golf Club in County Mayo.

Prices from

€1,339.00 per person

Includes all green fees and hotel accommodation, based on twin room occupancy.
Single room supplement €80 per night.

Golf Courses

Connemara Golf Club

This course is situated at Ballyconneely, on a rugged stretch of Atlantic coastline just outside the picturesque village of Clifden in West Galway. It boasts some spectacular views of both the rugged coastline and the inland mountain ranges of Connemara. The course here is unique in that it has two par 5’s to finish, and if the wind blows hard, invariably one plays very long and the other will play quite short. A true test of Golf which I have played many times, and one that never disappoints.

Westport Golf Club

On the shores of Clew Bay, and in the shadow of the famous Croagh Patrick, lies the beautiful town of Westport. Consistently a winner in Ireland’s tidiest town competition it also boasts a stunning Golf Course. Westport Golf Club is a beautiful parkland layout on the shores of Clew Bay, where I was Head Professional for three years in the late 1980’s, and it has consistently hosted some of the biggest tournaments in amateur and professional golf in Ireland. The last Irish Close Championship at Westport was won by none other than current world number one, Rory McIlroy. A great place to play Golf.

Carne Golf Links, Belmullet

Carne Golf Links in North Mayo, on the West coast of Ireland, lies in magnificent unspoiled sand dunes, overlooking Blacksod Bay and the wild Atlantic ocean, near the town of Belmullet. Because of its location this is truly a hidden gem, but wow, when you get to play here, what a spectacular test of Golf. Bring your “A” game here, you’re sure going to need it, one of my favourites.

Enniscrone Golf Club

Enniscrone Golf Club is situated on the West Coast of County Sligo. Known for having some of the largest sand dunes in Ireland, the club is situated on a promontory that juts into Killala Bay at the mouth of the River Moy Estuary. This provides Enniscrone with one of the most beautiful settings for the uncompromised playing characteristics of Irish Links Golf. The course has had some changes made to it since my first visit here, and it is now a beautiful piece of Golfing terrain

Strandhill Golf Club

Strandhill is one of Irelands hidden gems, running along the beautiful beach and sand dunes that this seaside town is famous for. This is a stunning piece of natural links land, and I have to say has always been one of my favourites. Undulating fairways and greens make this a real test of your shot making.

Hotels

The Plaza Hotel

The Plaza is located in the beautiful coastal town of Westport in County Mayo. Westport is known to be one of the country’s most vibrant towns, with lots of buzzing bars and excellent restaurants. This is a favourite hotel of mine and is a very short stroll from one of my favourite bars, Matt Molloys. Matt is a member of the famous Irish music band, The Chieftains, and the trad nights in the bar are legendary.

The Broadhaven Bay Hotel

The Broadhaven Bay is a family run hotel in Belmullet. The Hotel overlooks Broadhaven Bay, with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean on a backdrop of a patchwork of green fields. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere in this property and it’s easy to see why when you look out at the stunning coastal scenery. Great seafood here too, be sure to try some Oysters with your pint of Guinness.

Mount Falcon Hotel, Ballina

Mount Falcon Hotel is located on the River Moy just outside the town of Ballina in County Sligo. Famous for luxurious accommodation and award winning food, Mount Falcon estate offers rest and relaxation in many forms: indulge in the fabulous spa and leisure centre, catch the elusive wild Atlantic salmon, fine tune your golf game on the driving range or just enjoy the many beautiful walks throughout the estate.

The Intinerary

The closest Airport is Ireland West situated at Knock. The Airport services flights from the UK and some European destinations. For transatlantic arrivals Shannon is the closest and I would thoroughly recommend spending a day and night in the City of Galway at the end of the Golf tour on the way back to Shannon. Just let us know and we can make the arrangements.

Extra Day Activities / Places of Interest

Kylemore Abbey

Kylemore Abbey is a Benedictine Monastery founded in 1920 on the grounds of Kylemore Castle in Connemara, County Galway. The abbey was founded for Benedictine nuns who fled Belgium during World War 1. The beautiful grounds are open to the public and are well worth a visit, as are the craft shop and restaurant. A lovely place to spend an afternoon

Scenic drive from Killary Harbour

Killary Harbour is a fjord located in the heart of Connemara which forms a natural border between counties Galway and Mayo. It is 16km long and the scenic drive from Leenane up its eastern side to Louisburgh offers some amazing scenery. Well worth the drive.

Horse Riding

The Wild Atlantic Way offers numerous opportunities for some amazing Horse riding trails, whether you want to gallop along the shoreline or across some of the spectacular mountainous terrain, there is something for everyone.

Matt Molloys

Westport is also home to one of the most famous bars in the country, Matt Molloys. Matt is a member of the famous Irish music band, the Chieftains and the bar is renowned for its lively Irish music sessions and great pints of Guinness. It also has two bars that are listed in the Michelin guide for bar food, The Shebeen and The Tavern at Murrisk. Both overlook stunning Clew Bay and are places I love returning to for the famous Irish Craic.
